Recently, Baosteel Special Material Co., Ltd. (referred as Baosteel Special Material) has completed the first shipment of duplex stainless steel for nuclear power industry, the duplex stainless steel plates are to be used in the 2 nuclear power plants in China, i.e. Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant and Zhejiang and Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant, Shandong. The successful development of this product paved the way to expand a new market of stainless steel applied in nuclear power industry for the production line of steel strip of Baosteel Special Material.

S32101, as one kind of resource-saving duplex stainless steel, featured with high strength, excellent performance in corrosion-resistance, is designated for manufacturing CA20 security module to the third-generation nuclear power reactors of AP1000 and CAP1400. S32101 applied in the nuclear power industry requested many strict requirements for its high quality, for this reason, it posed much more difficulties in the manufacturing technologies.

Stainless Steel Technical Center of Baosteel Central Research Institute made a close cooperation with the manufacturing department of Baosteel Special Materials and the steel-making plant, the hot-rolling plant, through optimization of smelting process and rolling process, Baosteel Special Materials successfully produced the lots of medium steel plates with its average thickness 10mm below.

Especially, S32101 duplex stainless steel, with the thickness of 6.35 mm, is the thinnest product of steel plate in the domestic market, which provides an alternative for the imported counterpart products, in additiona, it meet the related requirements in the field of construction of nuclear power plant. So far, Baosteel has finished the product serialization of duplex stainless steel, such as, S32101, S32304, S32205 and S32750. Baosteel has become a leader in the field of manufacturing medium and heavy plates in the specifications with wide width and thin thickness among the domestic counterparts.
